2009 Doba Holiday Party and Video

Last Wednesday, everybody here at the office took a few hours off from work to ring in the holidays, Doba style. That’s right, we had our annual Doba Holiday party, and let me tell ya… it was epic!

We started off with lunch catered by local favorite Tucanos, which serves Brazilian barbecue. (By the way, if you’re ever in our part of Utah, be sure to fit in a meal from Tucanos or Rodizio into your schedule. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.) After lunch, the team gathered to hear a short and encouraging year-in-review report from our CEO, Blaine Nielsen. As it turns out, despite the down economy, Doba had a great year. We hired 26 new employees in 2009 and experienced 12% growth over 2008, which we are all pretty excited about.

Blaine also announced that Nate Cottle, Doba Sales Manager, received our Employee of the Year award. Way to go, Nate! (We’ll have more about Nate and his award in a future blog post.)

Once all the official business was done, everyone who attended the party was split up into one of six teams and pitted against each other in a series of fun games, including:

  • Santa Baby Jello Toss – Each team had a bowl of green Jell-O to toss into a Santa hat held by a blindfolded teammate.
  • Siamese Sculpt a Tree – Two contestants linked arms and had to sculpt with only their free hand. Each team of two had to work together to sculpt Play-Doh into a Christmas tree.
  • Stickin’ it to the Man – Dart game with Execs & former Employees of the Year on the dartboard. Once a name was hit with a dart, that person received a pie in the face. If the dart thrower missed the dartboard, they got a pie in the face instead.
  • Eggnog Surprise – A blindfolded contestant from each team had to bob for a Life Saver in a pie tin full of eggnog and name the flavor of the candy. First contestant to correctly identify the flavor of their Life Saver won.
  • That’s a Wrap – Contestants from each team were wrapped in plastic wrap, and a bow was placed atop their head. The contestant who got out first and took the bow off of their head received the most points for their team.
  • Santa’s Beard – On one side of the room we cotton balls across the top of a table. Three contestants per team lined up and put Vaseline on their faces. Contestants had to run (one at a time, relay style) to the other side of the room, stick their faces in cotton, and then run back so the next person could go. The winning team was the one that collected the most cotton balls in time allowed.
  • Martinelli’s Chug & Eating Contest – The contestant who finished their pumpkin bread and Martinelli’s first took home points for their team.

Craziness ensued. Let’s just say that we had to pay for cleaners to come in and get Jell-O out of . . . well, out of just about everything. All in all, we had a great time.

We hope your holidays are fantastic and wish everyone nothing but the best in 2010.

Happy Holidays from everyone at Doba!
