Researching products online is the easy way out. Get off the computer and get outside with your eyes peeled.

Create an Idea Log: At family functions, check out the kitchen appliances, home décor, listen to what games, hobbies and activities are being discussed, and write down what you observe. Check out TV shows, films, commercials, magazine advertisements. Research product reviews. New ideas for products can strike you at any time of the day or night. You might see a cool product online or on TV, overhear word-of-mouth talk of a new gadget, or spot an attractive item of clothing on a passerby. Trouble is it’s easy to forget these ideas unless you write them down. Carry a pad and pencil, or use your smartphone to record these brainstorms.

Gather Product Information at Tradeshows: Product heaven is spelled t-r-a-d-e-s-h-o-w. Attend at least one tradeshow a year in your chosen niche.
