Ask anyone who owns a Web-based business if they’re at all concerned about their search engine ranking, and you’re likely to receive a resounding “Yes!” Ask a firm that claims to specialize in search engine optimization (SEO) if they can improve your search engine rank, and you’ll likely receive a similarly resounding “Yes!”
Sadly, many people working in the get-rich-quick world of SEO are only in it for themselves, use antiquated methods, or truly believe optimizing websites is as easy as spelling ESPN. In the following video, I show you — the online drop-ship retailer — how to develop a website that is properly optimized for search engine rank.

It’s great information but we all know it’s all about backlinks. I sure like to see Google ban it’s own domain because people are all pointing to it with the keyword “google”. What else can you name Google? Google is google so we point back with the anchor text google. This applies to your own website. Just take a look at http://www.google.com, there isn’t anything there and it’s PR 10. Awesome, right. Almost a blank page and yet it’s PR 10. Yes, it’s the backlinks.
Great point Kao, and I mostly agree with you. Backlinks are important for building authority. But, as I mentioned in the video, it all starts with a properly designed website. If your website is about the breeding habits of mosquitoes, you can try as much as you want to get ranked for “iPod accessories” on Google and it won’t happen — “Google bombs” no longer work… at least not for Google. Yahoo! still gets fooled by them though, which may be a contributing factor to their severe decline in search volume.
Backlinks are also a large part of the PageRank algorithm, but there is definitely more to it than that. I’ve seen webpages hit PR3 with very few backlinks, and I’ve seen sites with tons of backlinks end up at PR0.
My Drop Shipping For Dummies Post is a good example of this. It is PR2 and only has one external backlink from an unranked webpage. I also have a few webpages of my own that are PR2 that have zero external backlinks, while a PR3 webpage has over a thousand external backlinks.
Of course, the type of backlinks also plays a large role… but again, that’s another blog post for another day.
Great video very insightful I learned a few tips. SEO is not as easy as everyone thinks its more like an artform that has to be learned. Thanks for the video!
